Updated Pinterest Terms

Recently, an image with the following phrase, "Pinterest: Change Your Terms or We’re Leaving" circulated online. The article outlines and quotes some pretty "scary" statements found within Pinterests' Terms of Use. Word quickly spread, and in less than a month over 45,000 people re-pinned the graphic/article on Pinterest!

And, it seems Pinterest may have actually heard and listened to the everyone's concerns! Below, is an email received from Pinterest which explains their updated terms of service to take effect on April 6, 2012.

Updated Terms of Service

Over the last few weeks, we've been working on an update to our Terms. When we first launched Pinterest, we used a standard set of Terms. We think that the updated Terms of Service, Acceptable Use Policy, and Privacy Policy are easier to understand and better reflect the direction our company is headed in the future. We'd encourage you to read these changes in their entirety, but we thought there were a few changes worth noting.
  • Our original Terms stated that by posting content to Pinterest you grant Pinterest the right for to sell your content. Selling content was never our intention and we removed this from our updated Terms.
  • We updated our Acceptable Use Policy and we will not allow pins that explicitly encourage self-harm or self-abuse.
  • We released simpler tools for anyone to report alleged copyright or trademark infringements.
  • Finally, we added language that will pave the way for new features such as a Pinterest API and Private Pinboards.
We think these changes are important and we encourage you to review the new documents here.
These terms will go into effect for all users on April 6, 2012.

Like everything at Pinterest, these updates are a work in progress that we will continue to improve upon. We're working hard to make Pinterest the best place for you to find inspiration from people who share your interest.
We've gotten a lot of help from our community as we've crafted these Terms.
Thanks!
Ben & the Pinterest Team

Yay! Happy Pinning!

Kid Craft: St. Patty's Day Rainbows

This weekend is St. Patrick's Day, and I thought a little rainbow project would be appropriate for my Pre-School and Junior Kindergarten art classes. I began by asking my students if they knew what holiday was coming up, and a little girl happily answered, "It's Leprechaun Day!" The great thing about this project is that it uses minimal supplies, can be adjusted based on age-level by changing the medium, and can be completed in less than 30 minutes.

Paper Plates   +   Scissors   +   String, Ribbon or Thread   +   Glue   +   Cotton Balls   + Crayons, Colored Pencils, Markers or Paint*
1. Cut paper plate in half
2. Poke hole at the top
3. Thread ribbon or string through the hole and tie
Depending on age level, steps 1-3 might need to be done for the child.
4. Color the rainbow!
Choose coloring medium based on age level.
If you are using paint, explain what happens if colors get blended.
While the children work, encourage them to really think about the colors and order of the rainbow.
Also talk about the difference between coloring thick and thin lines.
5. Add glue to bottom left and right edges
6. Slowly pull cotton to form "larger clouds"
Show them what happens if you pull to quickly!
7. Let dry
8. Hang the rainbow in a window so the leprechauns will visit!

Timeline for Facebook Pages

Facebook recently announced that "On March 30, 2012, all Facebook Pages will get a new design," and from the wording, it sounds like it is not optional. At first, I previewed how the timeline design would work for my business page.. and was a bit pleased.

Then, I read this post on Pretty Darn Cute Design reminding me about the very low photo image quality.

And then, I found this article on WOOBOX blog entitled, "
Don’t Enable Timeline on Your Facebook Page! Here’s Why." Put simply they explain the GOOD as: (1) Larger, wider tabs. More space to work with. (2) New Larger Tab Icons/Images (3) Existing Tabs Display .... and the BAD as: (1) Default Landing Tab: Where is it? (2) No Refresh on Likes.

Then.... I found this article which claims that the new timeline design for Pages NOW includes the option to CHANGE YOUR PAGE NAME. Are you serious!?!? Where was this option last month when I re-branded ? I don't even know what to say other than, seriously! Here I am trying to "re-gain" back my 800 fans from my old page to the new one, re-posted my photos and now...... I find out if I had waited a few weeks I wouldn't have had to do all this work.  AGH.

So, for any of you who wanted to change you name but couldn't ... it's your lucky day.
